The major French automaker Peugeot unveiled on Monday not only a new car model, but also some of the goals for 2010: to increase sales by another 30 percent on China market. China has rapidly developed and turned into one of the most attractive markets in the world due to its high grow rate and the fact that it has the most numerous population in the world. Google, Microsoft, Apple, General Motors, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, as well as many other famous brands have set their eyes on conquering the fertile market that it is still in the early stages of the development of the country into a global economic power. ! Peugeot is no different from other car manufacturers that are hoping to see salvation coming from Asia as sales fell 21% on US market, while on China’s car market they grew by 45% in 2009. After striking a partnership in 2003 with a local car maker, Dongfeng Motor, Peugeot managed not only to increase sales, but also to establish as a distinctive and stylish brand. Pursuing to achieve success and earn China’s benevolence, Peugeot together with Dongfeng Motor created the 307 model which takes in various degrees Chinese ideas and styles for the local market. As the idea proved to be brilliant and got record sales of 410,000 vehicles in 2009, the joint venture launched this year at the Beijing Motor Show the all-new 408 sedan. The model is a long-wheelbase sedan that can include three and five-door hatchback, coupe-convertible and station wagon styles. Because of the economic crisis an important aspect is the small gas consume: 1.6-liter an! d 2.0-liter gasoline engines.
