There are serious concerns regarding the global supply of oil and that leads to a record prices. Another cause of the high oil price is the weakness of the dollar against foreign currencies that determines investors to turn to safe grounds like oil and gold. In addition, the supply disruptions also were considered to have contributed to the current increase of $113.99 a barrel. On other markets heating oil price decreased in favor of natural gas that rose 15.2 cents. Up to present day oil was traded in dollars, therefore it was thought that weaker the dollar becomes, higher the price of oil will be. Yet, economists argue that the influence is vice versa. The increased oil prices and an economy on the verge of recession determine all kind of mergers in order to avoid bankruptcy. On Monday, after many months of rumors and speculation Delta and Northwest executives announced that by the end of the year they will merge creating the world's largest airline. In spite of lawmakers contesting the legitimacy of the deal, the Congress cannot stop it and the only issues remaining are mostly administratively and of labor relations. First issue on their list is relationships between management and workers. If Delta has a close relation with its workers, Northwest has a history of troubles with them and many strikes. Therefore it was not at all surprising that Northwest heavily unionized workers opposed the merger and they can pressure enough the shareholders and regulators to prevent it. Yet, they left room for a possible acceptance if it will offer them some satisfying contracts. Both airlines offered pilots joint contract and seniority beforehand. Delta pilots signed a deal during the weekend that gives them 3.5 percent of the new company, while Northwest pilots opposed arguing that unless their contracts won't be changed, the new airline cannot shift to new routes. Northwest CEO Doug Steenland assured the workers interests will be protected and that it will take a combined contract for everything to go smooth. The statement was reinforced by Ed Bastian, Delta's chief financial officer. If the deal goes through the new airline will be called Delta, will be run by Anderson, Delta's CEO, and it will have 1400 planes (12 main jets), thus the fleet will be an advantage for matching with certain routes and planes. Mostly the deal would benefit Delta and up to this point, only its pilots can rest assured about future contracts.

Despite the fact that the production and delivery of gas and diesel has been aborted for a while, motorists don't have to be afraid of absence these stuffs on pumps. To avoid running out of the petrol, stations have given limits of purchasing and lines of cars formed in front of the pumps. Na verejnosť však prenikla smutná správa o jeho smrti. Naposledy vydýchol v nedeľu vo svojom rodnom meste Melbourne v Austrálii. Príčinou smrti bola rakovina, s ktorou bojoval posledné dva roky. . Mal 60 rokov. Výkonným riaditeľom Jaguar a Land Rover sa stal v roku 2005 a uznanie si vyslúžil najmä tým, že sa mu podarilo aby boli opäť ziskové. Stál takisto za predajom týchto dvoch automobilových značiek indickej spoločnosti Tata Motors. Geoff Polites is a name the common people may not be very familiar with but it is well known in the world of automobile industry. Mr. Polites was CEO (Chief Executive Director) of Jaguar and Land Rover. However, sad news reached the public about his death. He passed away on Sunday in his home town, Melbourne, Australia after struggling with cancer for two years. He died at the age of 60. He became Jaguar Land Rover CEO in 2005 and was praised mainly because of his successful efforts to make the companies profitable again. He also organized the sale of the two brands to India's Tata Motors Ltd. Ford, which bought Jaguar in 1989 and Land Rover in 2000, will receive $1.7 billion from Tata.“Geoff''s untimely passing robs his family and friends of a man who was a real inspiration to us all,” said Alan Mulally, president and chief executive officer of Ford Motor Company. “His leadership of the team that has put the Jaguar Land Rover business back into profitability has been exceptional. Geoff has given Jaguar Land Rover the solid foundation and established the strong management team it needs for a successful future. We will miss our friend very much,” added Lewis Booth, executive vice president of Ford´s European units. The position of CEO will be temporarily undertook by Chief financial officer David Smith until a permanent successor is selected. Geoff Polites had been with Ford for nearly 40 years. He was born in 1948 in Melbourne where he graduated from Monash University and received an economics degree. In 1970 he was hired as a product planner for Ford. Then he held several executive positions with the company in Australia and Europe and in 1999 he became president of Ford Australia. He left behind his wife Linda and two sons.

I think it is quite a difficult task for the employees of FED because they have got a big responsibility to the citizens of US, to government and also to the whole world. They have to decide in the right way to make everyone satisfied. Because the interest rate is downsizing, it is supposed that people spend more money, they can borrow money for a lower due, they can take a mortgage rather than save money on their current accounts in the bank, because there is very small profit in this case. So loans are low-cost. Also businessmen take loans to make their business better and also because it is appropriate. These days the prime lending rate could go on the figure 5%, what is in my opinion quite low level. The level of the interest rate then would be on the lowest point since late 2004. But if there was so much loans and mortgages in the economy, a problem would happen. There would be so much money in the circulation and people would be willing to pay more for the same goods. They would earn bigger amount of money, but on the other hand the real income could be lower. Money would lost its value and everything would be more and more expensive. This is why it is very dangerous for the state economy and for the people living in that country as well. So the task of the FED is to avoid this situation, which could lead the economy to the slump. But economist think, that FED may incline to leave rates at such levels through this year and maybe also into next year. One of the representative of FED has said, that the US economy has got negative or almost negative values of interest rate. US economy is now faltering enough. So it is very complicated to them to make the right decision. It is also because of people's worries about another growth of the prices of food and energy, which has already started.
