Grey Black Friday?
by Barbora Misakova

Retailers have a rival - Internet. While last years were always in sign of Black Friday as a first shopping day after Thanksgiving, this year is a bit different. Online retailers got to a gold vein as lot of consumers give preference to shopping online these days. It seems like stores and shopping malls are becoming places where the consumers come only in the case of emergency or when the discounts are guaranteed. And there is no surprise. Who would like to shove through the crowd of shopping eager people risking sometimes even own life? Today, when everything can be found and bought through Internet, only those who really like Christmas atmosphere in these malls are actual! ly going there. What is more online retailers started offering the online equivalent of Black Friday specials earlier – most of them started on Monday. Target, Walmart, Amazon.com and many others came with great discounts and free shipping was also prevalent. “Cyber Monday” sales were up 19.6 percent over a year ago, Amazon.com shares rose $4.17 or 3.2 percent on a day when stocks of most traditional retailers fell. As said Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at market research firm NPD Group, the Black Friday is graying. The deals which usually occur only on the Friday after Thanksgiving have been spread much sooner – somewhere even two weeks before the Black Friday. Cohen also said there was even something as a new tradition of shopping online before stuffing the turkey, and after putting it in the oven it is a time for shopping outside. After all, shopping Christmas gifts mustn’t be about stress and hurry.
