Minimum wage will be lower
by kristina leskova

The living costs are slightly falling and in some American states this means decrease of the minimum wage. There are ten states where the minimum wage depends on inflation in United States of America. We could name these states – Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Washington and Vermont. And Colorado will be the first state that will decrease the minimum wage due to decreasing living costs. The reason why the minimum wage will drop is that consumer price index is decreasing, too. This will be the first decrease since the minimum wage law was passed in 1938. This law was accepted to protect low wage workers. This law insures that with! rising living costs the minimum wage has to rise, too. But nobody predicted that also adverse situation could happen. This is maybe the only solution. Of course there will be a public hearing in the beginning of November, but it is awaited that the minimum wage will have to decrease. Lower wage could take effect on 1st January. Colorado is one of the few states where the law could be interpreted so that the minimum wage could drop. Other states will keep the minimum wage on the current level. The minimum wage will decrease from 7,28 dollars to 7,24 dollars. This is lower than federal minimum wage (7,25 dollars), so the workers will lose three cents per hour. Maybe you think this is not so much, but for these poor workers every cent can be felt. But the Colorado voters approved this adjustable minimum wage in 2006. And every law has some advantages but we have to know also the disadvantages.
