Soon we will be just like snails, carrying our house with us. Well, that is soon, but for the time been we can just assembly it where we want to move. For instance, you have a house in London and want to move in Edinburgh, you don’t have to go through the madness of finding a house suitable to your needs, you just disassembly the old one and reassembly it on a new free space. This is all thanks to the prefab houses.
"Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling" will offer us a preview of the contemporary houses- prefab homes with computerized designs, innovative materials that give a new spin to the prefab houses built after World War II. Starting Sunday you can all see the models of materials and plans presented at the Museum of Modern Art. Moreover outside the museum there will be five model homes built and showing important architectural advances in prefabrication.
The first house, Cellophane House, has five stories, a steel-frame from Philadelphia, then is Burst 008, an Australian beachhouse of laser-cut plywood, Micro compact home (Britain and Germany), and System 3 conceived in Austria like shipping containers. A shotgun house beneficial for New Orleans famous for its floods is the fifth model. The fifth model is a digitally fabricated, one-room "shotgun house" designed for flood-ravaged New Orleans.
H. Manning of London is the first creator of a prefab house, then there are innovators like Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Jean Prouve in Europe and Thomas Edison, Frank Lloyd Wright and R. Buckminster Fuller in the United States. Since then people see an opportunity for the housing shortages created by wars and other calamities. Now, the buyer can have the portable house customized and this offers a great advantage.
