Yahoo´s new member

Yahoo is an United States public corporation founded in Santa Clara (California) with headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, which provides internet services world-wide. It was founded by graduate students of Stanford University Jerry Yang and David Filo in January 1994 and incorporated in March 1995. It includes a Web portal, Web search engine, the Yahoo! Directory, Yahoo! Mail, news and posting.
According to Web traffic analysis companies the domain yahoo.com attracted at least 1.575 billion visitors anually by 2008. It is the second most visited website in the U.S and the most visited website in the world. In February 2008 Microsoft made an unsolicited bid to purchase Yahoo! For $31 a share, or $44.6 bilion for all the shares. But Yahoo!´s board directors rejected this offer, calling it too low. So on May Microsoft withdrew its offer.
Yahoo Inc. is trying to avert the showdown with Carl Icahn, an acerbic bilionaire, by giving him three seats on its board of directors in a truce that still leaves the doors open for a possible sale to Microsoft Corp. Eight of Yahoo´s current nine directors will be retained, but the company regime will stay unchanged – headed by Chairman Roy Bostock and Chief Executive Jerry Yang.
Althought many shareholders do not trust Icahn, he will choose from the eight men he had already nominated and one new candidate - Jonathan Miller, the former CEO of Yahoo rival AOL. Throwing Miller into the mix of Yahoo's new directors was Yang's idea. If all of this calculation and conspiration will be successfull, nobody yet knows. But when the convulsions comes from the inside, nothing can save the company from outside.
