Geox – Manufactured and Breathable Shoes
by Milota Sidorova
After reading the interview with Mario Morreti Polegato I get the impression of such business cliche. Polegato is a head of Geox, Italian shoemaking company. And his story remains somewhat of American dream being realized in Italia.Mario Morreti Polegato is coming from winemaking family and as a son, he was obliged to continue the enterprise. But while promoting wine in Reno, Nevada he decided to take a walk in the country. Because of hot weather he took out his knife and cut some holes into the sole. This way he came to the idea of making breathable shoes. Invention, however didn't succeed among major shoemakers that time, but the model had had already passed the market tes! ting phase. In the beginning he started with shoes for kids, the women's line was set up later on. Geox's shoes have a rubber-sole bottom with several small holes within it – to make the air circulating. The product line is also called Geox Respira. The shoes is also containing a waterproof membrane, so it's kind of comfortable to walk on wet surface. Still the shoes are perfect for warm and dry climate. From 1995, the year the company was established to 1999 the innovation phase was the crucial part of the business. Still, Geox has had intensive ties with research teams (for instance – Montebelluna office hosting engineers, chemists, physicists developing perspiration and human-generated heat-movement and manufactirung apparel). According Moretti Polegato the company had 40 more patents on the sideline, waiting to be marketed. Continual research is the best proof of its competitive power. In 2000 the company reached the borders of Italy and within five years it! expanded all over Europe, America and Asia. Except of casual ! shoes, G eox specializes also on golf shoes.
