Consumers VS retailers
by Barbora Misakova
Shopping season can be actually pretty dangerous and hectic. From time to time I am seriously thinking about not buying Christmas gifts just because of that crowd of people rushing to the shopping malls and stores. When you imagine that one of the Wal-Mart Stores’ workers was trampled to death last year during the panic buying, it is hardly to believe that it was just one month before the Christmas – the holiday which should be the most peaceful days in the year. Now, when the customers had been saving money the whole year and retailers where counting every dollar which was spent in their store during this period and celebrating it with incredible enthusiasm, it! is questionable what will happen on this year’s Black Friday. Many of the stores will be open 24 hours a day, supposedly to help control crowds, but it is without any doubt (also) another way, how to earn more money. But will these never ending opening hours enough for consumers? I wouldn’t say so. The crisis isn’t over yet. The unemployment is still too high to let people spend money freely. So many consumers will open their wallets only in case there is some bargain around. According to America’s Research Group more than 50 percent of Americans expects discounts of at least 50 percent. If there are none, they won’t buy anything. The question is, if the retailers have enough pride not to cheat by marking goods with discount labels without true change of goods’ prices or some other ways how to dispossess their customers. Let’s just hope, that this year’s Black Friday won’t be black for anyone, neither for sellers, nor f! or consumers.
