Jump at the Pump Squeezing Business
by Maria Vasilova
$328 million loss announced by The American Airlines, the major U. S. airline company. $10,5 billion lost by Delta and Northwest, collapse of several low cost carriers, the airline industry has been facing with the highest loss since the Sept. 11th attacks due to higher fuel costs. American Airlines announced their predictions for current year – spending $9,3 billion for fuel compared to $6,7 billion last year. In fact, higher fuel costs mean higher prices on everything, from airline tickets , shipping fees, energies to even bananas. From truckers to citizens, airline corporations to low cost carriers, large companies to small businesses, all are tired of paying extremely high fuel costs reaching the level of $110 per barrel. And what is the most scaring to the American citizens in the fact, that the costs to feed one `s family are predicted to rise, too. Especially smaller businesses have either to increase their revenues or to reduce their costs in order to survive bad days. Therefore they usually build the higher costs into the prices of their products. Another way is to optimize the energy usage or use new energy solutions such as soler energy or biodiesel. On the other hand, large corporations prefer different strategies of how escape from the hostile situation. Reducing the number of employers and selling shares to private-equity firms, that is the way how to get out of trouble. We have been reading a lot about the canceled flights, desperate customers, the food crisis and shaking airline industry. The global market situation in nothing but hazy. However, it seems that using the creativity, international relationships and global power ( in a peaceful way ) of US could be an effective way out of the global recession.
