Microsoft buying Yahoo?
by Daniela Kuruczova
Last Friday Microsoft bid $44.6 billions for Yahoo with an idea of joining and creating a company capable to compete with the market leader Google. "Today, the market is increasingly dominated by one player, who is consolidating its dominance through acquisition," Microsoft said. "Together, Microsoft and Yahoo can offer a credible alternative." Yahoo is currently having problems with falling profits and accepting Microsoft's could be the solution.Problem for both companies could be the recruiting of new talented people. Engineering graduates are interested mainly in newer companies with future plans & like Google and Facebook & and may look at Yahoo as company past its best years.Gaining new talented people is crucial in Microsoft's ambition to be able to compete with Google and buying Yahoo may not be the best choice in this perspective. On the other hand, there are ambitious people who seek competition and are attracted by opportunity to beat Google. Number of Google's employees has risen in last two years from 3000 to 17000, what does not suit people who prefer smaller companies & older employees leave Google for Facebook, company of 300 people. It is probable that new smaller companies will enter the market and the attention of graduates will move to more targets.
