Twitter has new CEO, Williams stepped down

Current Twitter CEO Evan Williams is stepping down from the office to make room for Dick Costolo, Chief Operating Officer. Williams is not leaving the company, simply wants to put all his efforts into product strategy. "I am most satisfied while pushing product direction," he said. "Building things is my passion, and I've never been more excited or optimistic about what we have to build. "This is why I have decided to ask our COO, Dick Costolo, to become Twitter's CEO," he said. "Starting today, I'll be completely focused on product strategy." Costolo joined the company a year ago transferring from Google. As a part of the Twitter team he contributed to closing licensing d! eals with Yahoo and Microsoft, and also Google. "When I insisted on bringing Dick into the COO role a year ago, I got a lot of questions from my board. But I knew Dick would be a strong complement to me, and this has proven to be the case," says Williams. "During his year at Twitter, he has been a critical leader in devising and executing our revenue efforts, while simultaneously and effectively making the trains run on time in the office." Twitter Inc focusing on social networking and microblogging service was founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey and it has gained more than 100 million users around the world since then. It is dubbed as the “SMS of the Internet”. It is interesting to note that Twitter´s use is most frequent during prominent events. The record was set during this year´s FIFA World Cup when 2,940 tweets were posted in one second. Then the record was broken after Los Angeles Lakers victory in the 2010 NBA Finals on June 17, 2010. The server col! lapsed back in 2009 when singer Michael Jackson died.
