Let’s talk about education.
by Milota Sidorova
The more you know, the further you get. Let’s admit, it’s a 100 percent truth. Living in the 21th century, also known as century of information or technology (I’ll try to abandon my cynicism) the education is one of the key factor to human success. Example par excellence is the U.S. It’s been general secret that average level of education was creeping comparing to European or Asian systems. It seems a miracle that America was so proud of its universities and seems like irony that our people (in Europe) are getting through numerous scholarship on colleges and middle schools in the U.S. What for? America is having troubles getting right people to righ! t positions. Not that the others would do better. Crisis produced giant problem, at least on mental level. It’s called unemployment. Some say – it’s a breaking point when your education and skills matter. Well, what happened after downturn of giant automakers hiring 20 percent of American citizen, what happened after bankruptcy of thousand banks and little companies? There’s been an army of autoworkers, clerks, officers, hotel receptionists, generally people with no special training and skills. The situation is getting tougher when job market reports almost 9.8 percent unemployment and at the same time there’s increasing demand for nursing positions, engineers, technicians, genetic researchers, people with economic skills and experiences. One should have noticed numerous hiring advertisements for these positions offering from $60,000 to $140,000. But you can’t suddenly transform from lifetime auto worker into nuclear researcher or nurse! . Not in the month, year and some – don’t believe ! they eve n can do it. And that’s what I call perfect lie. Because these people were victimized by temporary vision of good conditions. How many of them continued their studies after college? How many of them decided that after secondary school it would make sense to apply for a job in the nearest factory plant or state administration? How many of them kept extending their skills during evening schools preparing for worse times? Personally I don’t believe these people can improve into demand profile. There are too many, too old applicants with lack of experience. There’s been black hole created with no supply to feed. According recruiting agencies, many who seek for suitable employees now turn into academic conferences and meetings. America has to save itself or rely on foreign help. That means foreign brains, educated immigrants to save the system when its own people can’t do it.
