TiVo's success
by Claudia Sonea

Good news people, not everything goes bad on the US market. TiVo, a brand of digital video recorder in the United States and Canada, just released the figures of its first quarter revenue and surprise, surprise, it had profit. In fact TiVo has multiple sources of revenue (consumers, television service providers and advertisers) and is trying to offer consumers a way to control television. By cutting the costs of production, TiVo managed to get in the first three months of the year $3.6 million which would mean 4 cents per share. In comparison with the last year in the same period when it registered 1 cent per share, the result is more than spine chilling. Yet, it had losses in the services and technology area because of a decrease in subscribers, from 4.3 million to 3.8 million. In order to solve the issue with subscribers they went and made a deal with Cox Communications and Comcast Corp that according to Chief Executive Tom Rogers is a sure thing. Also the future of the company seems even brighter after the deal with Disney resulting into a service that will enable TiVo subscribers to download movies from Walt Disney Co. Rogers said that it empowers the standalone TiVo business and thus all fears of being a drag on the other ventures disappeared. They promise to be better in the future, although they forecasted a less incredible profit for the second quarter. In the meantime let us just keep an eye on TiVo, because it promises to be big. Enjoy!
