Chris Cantell Discusses Business: Irv Robbins

On May 5 the man that thrilled people’s senses worldwide had passed into eternity. Irv Robbins was a loving husband and father, a hero for the country and one of the creators of the ice cream empire. After serving the US Army during World War II, he returned home and fulfilled his dream since ever of opening an ice cream store from a $6000 insurance policy from his father who was in the ice cream business too. This happened in 1945 in Greendale, California and he is to blame for the exciting tastes Rocky Road, Pralines 'n Cream and other 21 exotic ice cream flavors. He convinced his brother-in-law of the success of such a business and they opened a joint store called Baskin-Robbins and later on they put the bases for the first food franchise. Baskin-Robbins is the world's largest ice cream franchise with 5800 stores available in the US mostly and selling ice cream in Japan, Canada, Mexico, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Korea, India, and Taiwan. They are famous for the flavors created for different events like Lunar Cheesecake, Valley Forge Fudge, but one should be invented to commemorate his name. Irv Robbins is responsible for the happiness of millions of people, but how many knew that he enchanted them? All of his employees loved him and he dedicated his life to his work, seeking perfection and selling fun, not just food. His wife Irma and his three children Marsha, John and Erin are grieving. May God rest his soul.
