No money from tobacco companies!
by Lenka Filipova

It might sound maidenly, but it is correct. Last year in November the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin decided to put into practice new policy. It regards the money contributions of tobacco companies to school. The school appraised that the money received form revenues accumulated through sales of harmful product is actually not ethical. The school's leadership debated every little aspect of this issue and concluded finally that this was going to be the very right thing to be dine for the school as well as for the students.Consequently, the arguments may arise concerning this controversial decision, but the arguments approving the policy are highly prevailing. If smoking were to compare to alcohol drinking or fast-food eating, there are some crucial points that need to be noticed. Firstly, there is a high possibility that people will become addicted to tobacco. Secondly, tobacco is legal and thus very incoherent for misuse. And finally, and mostly substantial, tobacco is harmful to our body and health nevertheless it is used. Some might reckon this is an irruption on academic freedom. However, the calculations at McCombs have shown that all the projects and researches which were funding form "tobacco money" could be carried on without this kind of funding.  And what is more, the organizations' decision to abandon this stream of money was respectfully recognized.McCombs see this way of policy as enhancing the business future generation with ethics. Their intention is to persist in the mission of education their students in this way for a long time.
